Subnautica: Survival of the Fittest!

The game Subnautica was developed by a small indie studio, Unknown Worlds Entertainment based in San Francisco. A very fitting name looking at Subnautica. Their primary goal, which not be the easiest of tasks, is to unite the world through games. In Subnautica the player wakes up to an unknown water based world. A world filled with unfamiliar creatures and structures with the main goal to find out why you're here through exploration of the environment. Cinematic Trailer. Gameplay Trailer.

You awake in a life pod that is currently on fire and you must put it out with the fire extinguisher. When you do this, the life pod becomes your hub for communications from survivors and an area to stay until you have established a base of your own. As the player you must explore the ocean world while managing to keep your health, oxygen, food and water levels satisfied along the way. There are other game modes such as survival; maintaining health, oxygen, food and water. Freedom; where only health and oxygen is managed. Hardcore; the same as survival mode, but with a twist, only having one life. And creative, where you can build freely not having to worry about survival aspects. Materials and samples (schematics for items, buildings etc.) can be obtained through exploration of the underwater world which are fabricated with a 'Fabricator' you create early in the game. The world is not a passive as you may expect it to be. The oceans are full of exotic and hostile entities. Further into the dark depths, the more valuable information you can collect for the story and bigger and more dangerous creatures you will encounter.

You're placed in the role of a survivor of a colonist ship called the 'Aurora' which crash lands onto the water world after an unknown energy pulse. Playing Subnautica will have you confused, frightened and always curious about what lies ahead. There is never a time where you feel safe in your surroundings, not knowing what creatures lurk in the depths around you. This game to me is one of the best open world survival games to date, with such an interesting concept of underwater survival, it is bringing a new innovative title to the genre.
