Dys4ia - A Powerful Journey Through Transition

A small game with a not so common story. The story is told through 4 parts, with what can be seen as somewhat humorous titles. On the games startup, you are presented with a play button which leads to their title screen and further on a small overview of the story you will be told.

The experience is shared by Anna Anthropy. Anna shares her involvement with hormone replacement therapy. Throughout the game you are placed into their shoes and see how her life was difficult through the transition. You are told of the emotional distress they go through, about how she feels weird about her body, cannot fit into girly clothes and is referred to as "sir" by strangers. She mentions that shaving is humiliating and that when going to the ladies bathroom she feels as if she is a spy. These things are mentioned before the hormone therapy is performed. In the second level we observe the effort she goes through to find a clinic where they do not force her to go through psych exams.

Throughout the story Anna feels better about herself and the changes created. Although she is presented with high blood pressure, she powers on and and her confidence heightens. Everything that she faced no longer is a problem. You see in the second last scene that she corrects a stranger when they call her "sir" by saying "ma'am".

Throughout the game, you may not know what exactly is going on and you may even get lost. But with the constant narrative being displayed on each scene, you will be drawn into the story, immersing and connecting to the narrative. You journey from the awkward beginning to the confident, powerful woman she becomes in the end. Rejecting all the hate and becoming comfortable with who they've become.
